Principal Investigator - Dr. Yushu Xia (夏宇纾)
Dr. Yushu Xia grew up in Nanjing, China. She joined Columbia University as a Lamont Assistant Research Professor in February 2024. She is a soil scientist who uses field and lab observations, big data, remote sensing, and modeling tools to monitor carbon, greenhouse gas emissions, soil water dynamics, and ecosystem productivity in the terrestrial ecosystem. Her work aims to provide accurate and reliable estimates that can support management improvement at the field scale, and to inform policymaking at the broad scale. Dr. Xia is also affiliated with Columbia Climate School and Columbia’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology, Data Science Institute, and M.S. in Sustainability Science program.
